Anscestors of George M. Zobelein

ANCESTORS OF GEORGE ZOBELEIN

The surname Zobelein has a very interesting history. In German the “o” should have an umlaut, or two points above it. Since English does not have this sign, the “oe” can be substituted. (This explains why all the other Zoebeleins listed today in the U.S. have retained this spelling.)

Heinz Michel acquired the estate of Cunz Zobel. He named his son Clas Michel Zobelein. The two names Michel Zobelein were separate until the tenth generation when it became one word, Michelzobelein. George, on immigrating to the United States , used the surname Zobelein.
